UAE President orders release of 800 prisoners for Eid Al Adha

Rulers across the Gulf Cooperation Council typically release prisoners in the build-up to key dates on the Islamic calendar

UAE President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan has ordered the release of 803 prisoners to mark Eid Al Adha.

The UAE ruler ensured that fines imposed on the individuals would be paid in anticipation of their release.

“The release of prisoners comes within the framework of His Highness the President’s keenness to give them the opportunity to start a new life and alleviate the suffering of their families,” according to state news agency WAM.

Rulers across the Gulf Cooperation Council typically release prisoners in the build-up to key dates on the Islamic calendar.

Sheikh Khalifa released 977 prisoners in May ahead of the holy month of Ramadan.
