Home Industry Dubai’s mega Mall of the World project relocated The mega tourism project will be shifted to a site on Sheikh Mohammad bin Zayed Road by Aarti Nagraj August 31, 2016 Dubai’s mega tourism project Mall of the World has been relocated to a new site, developer state-owned Dubai Holding announced on Wednesday. Ahmad Bin Byat, vice chairman and managing director of Dubai Holding said the project – which was originally located along Sheikh Zayed Road – has now been shifted to a site on Sheikh Mohammad bin Zayed Road. “Tourism remains a major part of Dubai’s diversification strategy and Mall of the World will be a critical part of that vision,” he said. “Dubai Holding is committed to developing Mall of the World, a major retail and leisure destination in the region, and believes that the new location on Sheikh Mohammad bin Zayed Road will be an outstanding home for the project, as it will allow Dubai Holding to further expand as needed it in the future according to market needs,” he added. The project will now undergo “extensive planning” to become a major retail and leisure destination, the brief statement added. Mall of the World was originally launched in 2014 as a 48 million sq ft climate-controlled development, slated to house the world’s largest shopping mall and the world’s largest indoor theme park. The project was also intended to include a wellness zone, a cultural celebration district and 100 hotels and serviced apartment buildings with 20,000 rooms. In March, officials confirmed that it was being developed as a 15-year project, with required investment estimated at Dhs80bn.
