UAE’s Tawazun signs $6.3bn defence deals at Dubai Airshow

The UAE’s MoD-linked Tawazun Council signed deals with defence suppliers such as Edge, SAAB, and Thales

The Dubai Airshow 2023 wrapped up with a bang, with deals worth billions of dollars being signed across commercial, and government sectors.

Tawazun Council, a government entity that works closely with the UAE Ministry of Defence (MoD), announced that it signed deals cumulatively worth Dhs23.1bn ($6.28bn) at the recently concluded airshow.

This announcement was made on the the final day of the airshow which saw 10 deals, worth Dhs1.415bn ($383m), signed with local and international companies.

Tawazun Council signs with local and international defence suppliers

Zayed Saeed Al Meraikhi, chief corporate communication officer said, Tawazun Council on behalf of the MoD signed four contracts with local companies with a value totaling Dhs392m on the fifth day of Dubai Airshow 2023.

A contract worth Dhs178m was awarded to “Lahab Defence Systems”, while a Dhs82m contract was signed with ADASI, both UAE-based Edge subsidiaries.

The other two announced deals with local companies included one with GAL worth Dhs93.9m to provide technical support on VIP Aircrafts, and a contract with Yahsat at a value of Dhs38m.

The international contracts announced on Friday included six contracts at a total value of Dhs1.023bn.

The first contract was signed with the Swedish company SAAB to procure radars, at a total value Dhs145m, while another similar order worth Dhs262m was awarded to the French company Thales.
