Spring break and Eid holidays: When will schools close?

Private schools following the September academic year will commence their Spring Break on March 25, with classes resuming on April 15

The upcoming spring break combined with the Eid al Fitr break means a holiday bonanza for school kids this year.

3-week long holiday

It has been confirmed that Spring Break for all schools in Dubai will be a lengthy three weeks, spanning from Monday, March 25 to Sunday, April 14, 2024, inclusive. This decision marks a departure from previous years, where most private schools traditionally observed a two-week Spring Break period.

The extension of the Spring Break period is attributed to the anticipated timing of the Eid Al Fitr public holiday, which is expected to occur on Tuesday, April 9, 2024.

This adjustment is significant as it aligns with the academic calendar, particularly for schools that would have faced the challenge of resuming classes for just one day on Monday, April 8, before the onset of the Eid Al Fitr holiday.

According to the Knowledge and Human Development Authority (KHDA) in Dubai, private schools following the September academic year will commence their Spring Break on March 25, with classes resuming on April 15.

When do schools re-open?

The commencement of the Summer term for both private and public schools across the UAE is scheduled for Monday, April 15, 2024, following the conclusion of the three-week Spring vacation.

This timing also coincides with the anticipated end of Ramadan and the beginning of the Eid Al Fitr holiday, based on current predictions.

As per the official portal of the UAE government, the Eid Al Fitr public holiday is expected to span from the 29th day of Ramadan to the 3rd day of Shawwal in the Islamic calendar, totaling four days.

With the 29th day of Ramadan corresponding to April 9, 2024, the Eid Al Fitr public holiday is projected to occur from Tuesday, April 9 to Friday, April 12, 2024.

While public holidays will be officially confirmed closer to the time, UAE residents may enjoy an extended six-day long weekend for the Eid break.
