Over 75 per cent of travellers visiting Oman have displayed symptoms of Covid-19 within seven days of their arrival in the Sultanate, a senior official from the country has confirmed, reported Times of Oman.

“We assessed data of travelers arriving to the Sultanate in recent months and found that more than 75 per cent of them show symptoms within seven days after their arrival,” said Dr Saif Al Abri, director general of Diseases Surveillance and Control, reported local media.

Between October 21-27, 14,302 travellers were examined at the country’s entry points, of which 810, or around 6 per cent, tested positive.

It has prompted the country to require all visitors to undergo a Covid-19 PCR before their departure to Oman.

“Now a PCR examination will be requested from the traveler to be taken 96 hours before arrival to the sultanate, and this may reduce the percentage of positive cases at ports of entry,” said Al Abri.

“The positive results may reach to less than 1 per cent, taking into account the accuracy and reliability of the reports at arrivals.”

All travellers to Oman must now quarantine for seven days, down from the previous requirement of two weeks.

Furthermore, they will be required to undergo a Covid-19 tests seven days after their arrival into the country.

“The visitor will be required to undergo a Covid-19 test seven days after his stay in isolation, and if the result is negative, he will be able to leave isolation after the examination result is issued,” added Al Abri.

As of November 2, Oman has detected 116,152 Covid-19 cases, of which 106,195 people have recovered and 1,256 individuals have died as a result of it.
