Recently, ASUS launched the ZenBook 14X OLED Space Edition (UX5401ZAS) to commemorate the 25th anniversary of its P6300 laptops, which were sent to space as part of the MIR space station in 1997. The newly launched device is said to be a tribute to the laptops that lasted over 600 days in space with zero issues.

Here’s a closer look at its design and features.

Design and display
As the name implies, the ASUS ZenBook 14X OLED Space Edition design is heavily inspired by the MIR space station. The company has successfully incorporated space-related elements into the device. Made of aluminium alloy, the device has a finish of Zero-G Titanium colour.

Featuring a thin and lightweight design, just 15.9mm and weighing 1.4 kg, it is comfortable to carry and will easily slip into any backpack that supports a 14-inch laptop. When it comes to the exclusive design elements, the palm-rest area continues the space-capsule and morse-code themes. The pattern on the left is the MIR space station pattern comprised of multiple lines and two lines added on both sides of the touchpad is inspired by a cockpit.

Furthermore, the lid of the ZenBook 14X OLED features the ZenVision display, which is said to be inspired by a datasheet of a spaceship. The ZenVision display is a 3.5inch OLED panel that supports 256×64 resolution and 150 nit brightness, allowing users to customize time and battery display and even your own identity tag with a QR code.

The device also features an up to 14-inch 2.8K OLED display with a 90Hz refresh rate and a 100 per cent DCI-P3 colour gamut. The display is also certified by Vesa DisplayHDR 500 True Black and is Pantone validated. In addition, the OLED panel emits 70 per cent less harmful blue light than LCD panels and is also certified by TUV Rhineland to ensure that the device adheres to high safety and quality standards.

ErgoSense keyboard and touchpad
The ASUS ZenBook 14X OLED Space Edition features an ErgoLift hinge design, resulting in the keyboard automatically tilting when the laptop is opened. This design allows users to type comfortably and increases the ventilation space under the chassis for improved heat dissipation. The device also comes with a NumberPad 2.0, an LED-illuminated numeric keypad integrated with the touchpad.

Performance and connectivity
Powered by 12th Gen Intel Core i7-12700 H-Series processors, the laptop features Windows 11 and Intel Iris X graphics. With 16GB of main memory, the device supports up to 1TB of storage space.

Moreover, the Zenbook 14X OLED Space Edition has been even tested to meet the US Space Systems Command Standard SMC-S-016A certification. The vibration test of Space-Grade standard is up to 2000 Hz, and the temperature test is a greater temperature difference than the general military regulations. The purpose of this is to ensure that the laptop can operate stably in a space capsule with a very large temperature difference.

With regards to connectivity, the laptop is equipped with the brand’s Wifi Master Premium technology which has a built-in dual-band Wi-Fi 6E wireless network for faster wireless transmission performance. Meanwhile, USB-C easy charge support means that the device can be used with a wide range of standard USB-C chargers. With 63Wh lithium-polymer battery, users can enjoy ultra-fast charging with any power delivery certified charger, including the 65W fast charging adapter supplied with the device.

Video conferencing
With remote working becoming the new norm, videoconferencing is increasingly common. The device features an HD webcam with 3DNR technology and AI-noise cancelling audio which ensures that users can hear and be heard clearly in any scenario. In addition, a clear voice mic function page lets the user choose from one of the four modes – normal, balanced, single presenter or multi-presenter. For instance, when a user selects a single presenter mod, all ambient noise except human voices is filtered out, and in multi-presenter mode, the system normalises individual voices from a distance so that all voices are conveyed at a similar volume.

In a nutshell, ASUS ZenBook 14X OLED Space Edition is a great laptop if you’re looking for a device with an amazing display, the outstanding performance, and the eye-catching design.
