Abu Dhabi-based Mohamed bin Zayed University of Artificial Intelligence (MBZUAI) and Etihad Airways have inked a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to jointly develop initiatives and carry out research into how artificial intelligence (AI) could transform key aspects of the UAE’s aviation industry.

Both organisations will set up joint training programmes and explore research opportunities, and jointly hold seminars, workshops and conferences on diverse topics exploring AI in aviation.

The MoU will create training opportunities for the university’s students to advance their understanding of the aviation industry while using AI to address  challenges.

Additionally, the partnership will facilitate scientific research and knowledge exchange to develop solutions that enhance the sector.

MBZUAI aims to enable technological innovation

Close collaboration is key in enabling our faculty, students, and researchers to understand the challenges that this sector faces and the opportunities for growth that they see. The partnership will also give our students – many of whom have undertaken internships with Etihad Airways – and our researchers, the opportunity to gain valuable experience and insights, opening up new areas of specialisation.”

Mohamed Hasan Al Mansoori VP Emiratization Strategy & Government Relation at Etihad Airways said the airline was looking forward to exploring “opportunities presented by artificial intelligence, particularly in terms of long-term planning in areas such as customer service, flight planning, workforce and fleet management and security”.
