Public parks across Sharjah and Ajman have been temporarily closed as unstable weather conditions and rainfall sweep parts of the UAE, prompting precautionary measures from local authorities.
Sharjah City Municipality announced the closure of all public parks in the emirate due to deteriorating weather conditions, citing safety concerns for visitors and staff. The move comes as rainfall and strong winds affect several areas, reducing visibility and increasing potential hazards in outdoor spaces.
Beyond closures, Sharjah Municipality said it has activated a comprehensive emergency response plan to manage the anticipated rainfall. According to a statement shared on its official social media channels, the Higher Committee for Rain Emergencies and its field teams have put in place proactive measures to ensure rapid response across the emirate.
The municipality has deployed a workforce of 1,200 personnel, including engineers, technicians and support staff, supported by a fleet of 180 water tankers, 140 high-capacity pumps, six advanced dam vehicles and 20 recovery vehicles for disabled cars. In addition, 67 water collection basins have been established to facilitate drainage operations across key areas.
Authorities also confirmed that the municipality’s call centre (993) remains fully operational to receive and respond to public reports during the weather event.
Similarly, authorities in Ajman have also suspended access to public parks, beaches and outdoor attractions amid the ongoing weather conditions. The closures form part of broader precautionary steps being implemented across the UAE to ensure public safety during the period of unsettled weather.
The developments follow forecasts from the UAE’s National Centre of Meteorology indicating a spell of unstable weather, including cloud cover, rainfall and a drop in temperatures across multiple emirates.
Authorities have not specified a reopening timeline, stating that parks and outdoor facilities will resume operations once weather conditions stabilise and it is deemed safe for the public.
