Article Summary
Asian stocks rose amid Middle East conflict uncertainty and a busy central bank week. Oil prices surged after the US call for tanker escorts was rebuffed. The RBA hiked rates, but future moves are uncertain. Central banks, including the Fed, are expected to hold steady, assessing the war's economic impact, while urged to avoid knee-jerk reactions to energy price spikes.

Stocks climbed in Asian trading on Tuesday, pressing for a second day of gains as investors confronted a crowded central bank calendar and an unrelenting Middle East conflict.

Markets are on edge, trying to price in the economic damage from US President Donald Trump’s war with Iran and the policy reaction it could trigger.

MSCI’s broadest index of Asia-Pacific shares outside Japan was up 1.1 per cent, led by a 2.3 per cent gain for South Korea’s Kospi, while Japan’s Nikkei was flat. S&P 500 e-mini futures slipped 0.5 per cent.

On Wall Street on Monday, the S&P 500 rose 1.0 per cent to snap a four-day losing streak on gains for AI stocks, though the index remains 3 per cent below its level before the conflict began.

“The rally still has the feel of a positioning squeeze rather than the start of a new directional trend,” said Chris Weston, head of research at Pepperstone Group in Melbourne. “I remain reluctant to buy dips at this stage.”

Brent crude rose 3.4 per cent to $103.58 a barrel after several US allies rebuffed Trump’s call on Monday to send warships to escort tankers through the Strait of Hormuz, a vital artery for a fifth of global energy shipments. Iran’s Revolutionary Guards also arrested 10 foreign individuals accused of spying in the country’s northeast, the semi-official Tasnim news agency reported on Tuesday.

Elsewhere, the Reserve Bank of Australia voted to hike interest rates for a second time this year, taking its benchmark rate to 4.1 per cent, but the 5-4 vote was enough of a close call to put its next move in doubt. The Australian dollar gave up gains after the decision and was recently trading flat at $0.7073.

It is the first major central bank to meet this week, setting the tone ahead of the Federal Reserve, European Central Bank, Bank of England and Bank of Japan as they assess the global economic impact of the Iran war, even though all are expected to stand pat on policy.

The Bank for International Settlements on Monday urged policymakers not to rush reactions to the Iran crisis-driven spike in global energy prices, calling it a textbook case of when to “look through” a supply shock.

Fed funds futures are pricing an implied 99.1 per cent probability that the US central bank will remain on hold at the end of its two-day meeting on Wednesday, according to the CME Group’s FedWatch tool.

The Federal Open Market Committee “is likely to defer action until it becomes clear whether the output or price effects are dominant,” said Steve Englander, global head of G10 FX research at Standard Chartered in New York.

“We would be surprised if the FOMC indicated a strong direction on the impact of the war, as it has no way of knowing how long the war will last or whether the biggest response will be on activity or inflation.”

The yield on the US 10-year Treasury bond was up 2.5 basis points at 4.2434 per cent.

The US dollar index, which measures the greenback’s strength against a basket of six currencies, edged up 0.2 per cent to 100.02 after snapping a four-day streak of gains on Monday.

The Japanese yen weakened 0.2 per cent to 159.41 per dollar, just shy of the crucial 160 level despite verbal warnings from Japanese authorities on Tuesday.

Analysts expect the bar for an intervention to be higher because of rising oil prices. Bank of Japan Governor Kazuo Ueda said on Tuesday that underlying inflation was gradually accelerating toward the central bank’s 2 per cent target.

Gold prices held steady, up 0.3 per cent at $5,022.28. Bitcoin BTC=slipped 0.2 per cent to $74,073.11, while ether was down 1.5 per cent at $2,309.69.

Article Summary
The Fazaa Programme website experienced high traffic due to free discount memberships for UAE resident families as part of the Year of the Family 2026 initiative. Registration access has stabilized after initial delays. The initiative provides access to discounts on various services until 2026. Similar demand was seen for The ENTERTAINER's community initiative, highlighting the desire for savings.

Resident families can once again easily register for free discount memberships with the UAE’s Fazaa Programme, after the website returned to normal operations this week following extremely high traffic over the weekend.

On Sunday evening, visitors attempting to access the registration page were placed in a virtual waiting line, with estimated wait times exceeding one hour and 30 minutes, according to a message displayed on the platform.

“We are experiencing a high volume of traffic and using a virtual queue to limit the amount of users on the website at the same time,” the notice on the site said.

“This will ensure you have the best possible online experience.”

Users were also warned not to close their browser, as the page would automatically refresh once it was their turn to access the registration system.

By Monday and Tuesday, access to the website appeared to have stabilised, with users able to navigate the application process more smoothly as traffic levels eased.

Free memberships announced

The surge in demand came after authorities confirmed that resident families across the UAE would be eligible to receive free Fazaa discount memberships as part of the Year of the Family 2026 initiative.

The membership will remain valid throughout 2026 and provides access to discounts across travel, dining, retail and entertainment outlets nationwide.

Families can register through the official Fazaa website by submitting their personal details and uploading Emirates ID copies for each family member.

To qualify, applicants must have at least one child, according to the programme guidelines.

Successful applicants receive a confirmation email and can activate their digital membership through the Fazaa mobile application.

Strong appetite for savings

The rush to apply highlights strong consumer demand for discount platforms across the UAE.

Last week, Dubai-based lifestyle platform The ENTERTAINER reported a similar surge in demand for its own community initiative.

Speaking to Gulf Business, founder and CEO Donna Benton said the campaign exceeded expectations.

“The campaign has been phenomenal and has gone above and beyond. Our aim was to encourage support for our world-class hospitality industry – and our wildest expectations have been surpassed,” Benton said.

According to the company, 250,000 memberships were claimed within four hours, with more than 20,000 offers redeemed in a single day.

Meanwhile, several Dubai attractions have also rolled out special promotions in recent days, including Atlantis Aquaventure and Dubai Miracle Garden, as venues look to attract residents with discounted or complimentary offers.

Article Summary
UAE schools, nurseries, and universities will continue distance learning for two weeks after spring break. This measure, starting March 23rd, aims to safeguard students and staff. The situation will be reviewed weekly. Flexible remote work is also available for federal government caregivers of young children. Universities retain flexibility in managing staff.

Distance learning across UAE schools, nurseries and universities will continue nationwide for two weeks following the end of the spring break, authorities announced on Tuesday.

The decision forms part of measures introduced by the Education, Human Development, and Community Development Council to ensure the continuity of the education system while safeguarding students and the wider academic community.

Under the directive, the Ministry of Education confirmed that distance learning will continue at the start of the third academic term for two weeks after classes resume on March 23.

The measure applies to students as well as teaching and administrative staff across all nurseries, kindergartens, and public and private schools across the country.

Authorities said the situation will be reviewed on a weekly basis, with any updates communicated through official school channels.

“The situation will be reviewed on a weekly basis, and any updates will be communicated through the official channels approved by schools, in order to ensure the safety of students and educational staff,” officials said.

Private education institutions — including schools, nurseries and higher education providers — will also be allowed to submit requests to resume in-person learning if required.

Such requests will be reviewed in coordination with the relevant authorities, taking into account operational circumstances and educational requirements.

Universities also remain online

The Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research said distance learning will also continue at all higher education institutions nationwide for two weeks following the spring break.

Universities will have flexibility in determining the most appropriate arrangements for their academic and administrative staff to ensure the continuity of learning outcomes and the quality of education.

Officials said the situation will also be reviewed weekly at the higher education level.

Flexible work for parents

Separately, the Federal Authority for Government Human Resources announced flexible remote work arrangements for federal government employees who are caregivers for children.

The policy applies to fathers or mothers working in federal ministries and entities whose roles meet the requirements for remote work.

The measure will apply during the period in which distance learning is implemented for students from kindergarten through Grade 8, as well as for children enrolled in nurseries.

Authorities said the measures form part of broader efforts to support families and ensure education continues smoothly during the current period.

The Education, Human Development, and Community Development Council said further updates will be communicated through official channels, adding that the measures reflect ongoing coordination across government entities to maintain a safe and flexible learning environment while sustaining the quality of education nationwide.

UAE air navigation has returned to normal following regional stabilization and the removal of temporary restrictions. The GCAA confirmed operations are functioning as usual after assessing security conditions. Disruptions occurred due to earlier regional tensions, causing schedule changes and cancellations. The GCAA thanked passengers and airlines for their cooperation and emphasized continuous monitoring to ensure air navigation safety.

Air navigation across the UAE has returned to normal morning following the stabilisation of the regional situation and the lifting of temporary precautionary restrictions, according to the country’s aviation regulator.

The General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) confirmed that operations across the UAE’s airspace are now functioning as usual after authorities conducted a comprehensive assessment of operational and security conditions.

“The Authority confirmed that the decision was taken after a comprehensive assessment of operational and security conditions, and in coordination with relevant authorities, emphasising that continuous real-time monitoring remains in place to ensure the highest levels of safety of air navigation,” read a statement on Emirates News Agency (WAM).

Temporary measures affecting flight operations had been introduced earlier amid regional tensions, resulting in schedule disruptions and the diversion or cancellation of some services at UAE airports.

The GCAA thanked passengers and airlines for their cooperation during the period of disruption.

“The GCAA expressed its appreciation for the cooperation of passengers and airlines during the past period, reaffirming the full readiness of its technical and operational teams to respond to any potential developments,” WAM reported.

Authorities also urged the public to rely on official sources for updates related to aviation operations and travel.

The UAE is one of the world’s busiest aviation hubs, with Dubai and Abu Dhabi serving as key transit points linking Europe, Asia and Africa.

Article Summary
Saudi Arabia announced Umrah visa issuance ends Shawwal 1, entry deadline is Shawwal 15, and departure by Dhul Qada 1. Hajj can only be performed with a Hajj visa. The Ministry of Hajj and Umrah praised companies' Ramadan efforts and urged continued regulatory compliance, including staggered arrivals and Nusk Masar updates, to enhance pilgrim experience under Vision 2030.

Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Hajj and Umrah has announced the final deadlines for issuing Umrah visas and for pilgrims entering and staying in the kingdom during the current Umrah season.

The ministry said the last day for issuing Umrah visas will be the first of Shawwal, while Umrah pilgrims must enter Saudi Arabia no later than Shawwal 15. Pilgrims will be required to leave the kingdom by the first day of Dhul Qada, marking the official end of their permitted stay.

The announcement came during the ministry’s 17th periodic meeting with Saudi Umrah companies, which was held virtually, a Saudi Gazette report said.

During the meeting, the ministry stressed the importance of strictly adhering to regulations governing the upcoming Hajj season. Officials reiterated that Hajj rituals can only be performed with a valid Hajj visa, and not with an Umrah visa.

The reminder comes as authorities prepare to manage the large influx of pilgrims expected for the annual Hajj pilgrimage. According to the ministry, maintaining clear visa categories helps ensure smooth organisation and safety for millions of visitors.

Minister praises companies’ Ramadan efforts

Addressing the meeting, minister of Hajj and Umrah Dr Tawfiq Al Rabiah praised the efforts of Umrah companies and their cooperation during Ramadan.

He acknowledged their work in serving pilgrims, resolving issues faced by stranded Umrah travellers, and facilitating their return to their home destinations.

“The cooperation shown during Ramadan played an important role in ensuring pilgrims received the support and services they needed,” the minister said.

Call for continued coordination

Al Rabiah also urged companies to continue complying with all regulations governing the Umrah season. These include ensuring staggered arrival schedules for pilgrims at airports and regularly updating departure information through the Nusk Masar platform.

He also encouraged companies to participate in the third edition of the Umrah and Visit Forum 2026, which aims to strengthen partnerships and highlight opportunities to improve services for pilgrims.

Officials said the meeting included a review of key indicators from the Umrah season and preparations for the upcoming forum.

The ministry noted that such periodic meetings with Umrah companies are designed to strengthen communication with sector partners and monitor service improvements. These efforts are aligned with Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 goals of enhancing the experience for Umrah pilgrims and visitors.
