Federal Express Corporation (FedEx) has expanded its Middle East Road Network to include dangerous goods transportation, allowing businesses to move eligible regulated materials across five Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) markets.
The service covers the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Kuwait and Oman through FedEx Regional Economy and Regional Economy Freight services.
The expansion is aimed at industries with complex supply chains, including healthcare and life sciences, energy and petrochemicals, technology, and beauty and personal care.
Eligible shipments include healthcare materials, laboratory reagents, diagnostic samples, dry ice, chemicals and lithium batteries, subject to applicable commodity, origin, destination and regulatory requirements.
FedEx expands GCC logistics capabilities
The new capability is designed to provide businesses with additional options for transporting regulated materials across regional markets while meeting applicable safety and compliance requirements.
Taarek Hinedi, Vice President of Operations and Planning & Engineering, FedEx Middle East, Indian Subcontinent and Africa, said: “As industrial activity and intra-regional trade across the GCC continue to grow, businesses are navigating increasingly complex supply chains.”
“Expanding the capabilities of our Middle East Road Network to support dangerous goods gives businesses greater flexibility to move critical commodities across GCC markets. Backed by our compliance controls, operational expertise, and regional connectivity, this capability supports industries as they build more resilient and connected supply chains.”
Through its Regional Economy and Regional Economy Freight services, FedEx will offer day-definite transportation for eligible dangerous goods shipments, alongside customs-cleared movements and end-to-end shipment tracking.
The service also includes dedicated dangerous goods handling controls and road transportation aligned with applicable European Agreement concerning the International Carriage of Dangerous Goods by Road (ADR) requirements.
Both lightweight parcels and heavier palletised freight shipments can be accommodated, depending on the nature of the goods and applicable regulations.
Dubai World Central supports regional operations
The FedEx Middle East Road Network is connected to the company’s wider international logistics network through its regional hub at Dubai World Central (DWC) airport.
The hub links FedEx air and road operations across the Middle East, Indian Subcontinent and Africa region, supporting cross-border freight movements.
From DWC, FedEx operates road freight services along GCC transport corridors using a dedicated fleet of vehicles registered under the Transports Internationaux Routiers (TIR) system, which facilitates international road freight movements under customs controls.
The vehicles are GPS-tracked, while shipments are monitored around the clock through a dedicated control tower, providing visibility throughout the transportation process.
The expansion strengthens FedEx’s regional freight offering as businesses across the GCC seek logistics solutions for specialised industrial, medical and technology-related shipments.
