E-scooter service TIER expands to Doha, Qatar

E-scooter brand TIER has expanded its GCC operations to Doha. Qatar becomes the second market in the Middle East for TIER, after launching services in Dubai in October of last year.

Doha joins a network of more than 90 cities across 11 countries where Berlin-headquartered TIER operates.

The micro-mobility provider says its scooters will be located close to central transport hubs as well as other busy spots across Doha.

TIER’s e-scooters feature swappable battery technology, which eliminates the need to transport the scooters to-and-from warehouses for charging. TIER employees replace empty batteries with freshly charged ones on-site, thereby reducing transportation costs and CO2 emissions. TIER’s operations model has enabled the company to remain fully climate-neutral since January 2020, the company claims.

TIER e-scooters in Doha are equipped with a large front wheel, a wider footplate, dual drum brakes and a double-suspension mechanism to enhance safety.

“With our e-scooters, we now offer residents and visitors of Doha an environmentally-friendly alternative to seamlessly move around the city with zero carbon emissions,” said Amir Melad, general manager Middle East for TIER. “Especially in the current Covid-19 situation, the use of our e-scooters make it easy for users to comply with WHO’s recommendations for social and physical distancing.”

TIER will charge a fee of QR 3 to unlock and a subsequent QR 1 per-minute. Riders can pay through credit cards or PayPal. First-time riders get two complementary unlocks and 30 free minutes of usage added to their account.
