Dubai-based e-commerce site Souq.com has announced an agreement to purchase delivery marketplace Wing.ae

Souq said it had previously invested in Wing, which provides same and next day delivery services in the region, and would now be acquiring 100 per cent of the company.

Under its new owners, Wing will continue to invest in its delivery platform for its merchant and courier customers including Souq.com.

The value of the deal was not disclosed.

“At Souq.com, our customers will remain our key focus and we will continue to deliver an exceptional online shopping experience,” said Souq.com co-founder and CEO Ronaldo Mouchawar.

“Fast dependable delivery is key to this, and Wing.ae provides Souq.com customers with more convenience for their same and next day delivery. With Amazon’s support, we are putting all our efforts in providing an ever-improving shopping experience for customers in the Middle East.”

The acquisition is believed to be the first the e-commerce site had made since being bought by Amazon in a deal estimated to be worth $650m.
