In-app taxi service Careem will start offering female-driven limos after signing a deal with the Roads and Transport Authorities’ Dubai Taxi Corporation (DTC).

Named ‘Amira’ the ‘ladies limo’ service will consist of an unnamed number of female-driven taxis and limousines that can be booked through the Careem app.

The RTA already offers a number of female taxis that can be pre-booked with a start fare of Dhs 6 in the morning and Dhs 7 in the evening.

Dr Yousef Al Ali, CEO of DTC, said: “Launching the new exclusive Ladies Limo service is a further evidence that DTC is committed to delivering best-in-class services to customers, and enriching the 5-star experience to unprecedented levels. The service will be appealing to VIP ladies in quest for privacy and comfort aboard deluxe transit means.”

“This initiative aims to leverage the operational efficiency of DTC by ensuring the optimal utilisation of assets, and adding new services through the existing resources of DTC,” added Abdullah Ibrahim Al Meer, director of business development at DTC

The two taxi bodies recently signed a partnership with the RTA to allow Careem users to book RTA taxis using the app.

The deal announced earlier this month will give Careem users access to the RTA’s fleet of about 9,800 taxis, as well as the 4,700 limousines previously accessible via the app.

Careem and Uber suspended services in Abu Dhabi in August, after licensed limousine drivers using the app were arrested by police.

Careem has relaunched a limited service in the capital, while Uber remains unavailable.
