The Dubai Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) is set to present a range of cutting-edge projects and initiatives at GITEX 2023, commencing on Monday at the Dubai World Trade Centre.

These initiatives are aimed at enhancing public transport, driving efficiency, and maximising customer satisfaction.

Facial recognition for Metro Nol cards

One of the highlights of RTA‘s showcase is a smart gate that allows commuters to pay for public transport fares using facial recognition technology.

This innovative system enables passengers to make payments without tickets, Nol cards, or credit cards. By registering and identifying users and analysing their 3D facial features, the system processes payments directly from their accounts.

This approach simplifies transactions, enhances operational efficiency, and reduces the reliance on cash payments.

Transfer vehicle plate ownership via the RTA Dubai Drive App

RTA is also introducing a service for transferring vehicle number plate ownership through the RTA Dubai Drive app.

This feature simplifies selling procedures by leveraging the digital ID “UAE PASS,” allowing users to complete transactions without visiting RTA service centers. Customers can register within the system using “UAE PASS,” complete the service procedures, and securely sign the sales contract electronically, offering a seamless and convenient experience.

World’s first 3D-printed electric Abra

In partnership with the private sector, RTA is showcasing a model of the world’s first 3D-printed Abra. This eco-friendly watercraft can accommodate up to 20 passengers and features electric motors.

Designed to preserve the heritage identity of Abra, this initiative contributes to Dubai’s 3D printing strategy, significantly reducing manufacturing time and costs, and aligning with RTA’s commitment to environmental sustainability.

AI-powered parking occupancy predictions

Leveraging the capabilities of artificial intelligence and big data, RTA has developed an innovative model to predict parking occupancy.

By analysing millions of parking reservation and inspection transactions, the AI model forecasts parking occupancy rates for up to two weeks in advance, broken down into 15-minute intervals. This predictive system empowers customers to plan their trips effectively by accessing real-time parking occupancy data through RTA’s smart apps.

Smart kiosk

In addition to these initiatives, RTA will also present its smart kiosk—a comprehensive platform for monitoring and managing the operations of soft mobility service providers.

It includes features like driver risk measurement, passenger movement monitoring at stations, and a congestion index, further enhancing the efficiency of transportation services in Dubai.

RTA’s commitment to adopting emerging technologies, including AI and the metaverse, reflects its dedication to improving the transport infrastructure in Dubai.

These initiatives align with the vision of Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum and Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, setting Dubai as a global leader in innovative and sustainable transportation solutions.
