The Dubai Police said on Wednesday that it had apprehended three thieves who stole jewellery and watches worth Dhs13m from a car showroom.

The police added that it had caught these thieves, who it identified as being of European nationalities, in less than 10 hours of being notified of the incident.

Major General Khalil Ibrahim Al Mansouri, assistant Commander-in-Chief for Criminal Investigation Affairs at the Dubai Police, stated that the gang took advantage of the showroom’s weak security measures.

They broke through its glass barrier quickly and stole motorcycles without leaving a trace, noting that the gang were experienced thieves.

Brigadier Jamal Al Jallaf, Director of Criminal Investigation Department at the Dubai Police, said the the police received an emergency call informing them about the robbery at the car showroom.

The police rushed to the scene, noting that upon reaching the showroom they learnt from the caller, who is of Arabic nationality, that upon arriving at 9am he had noticed the disappearance of the showcased jewellery.

In another incident involving watches, earlier this year the Dubai Police confiscated over 29,000 counterfeit watches with a street value of over $330m (Dhs1.2bn) in an operation named “60 Minutes”. At the time, the Department of Combating Economic Crimes at the Dubai Police apprehended two Asian men who ran the counterfeit business in Dubai’s Naif area, located their hideouts and confiscated the counterfeit items.
