Dubai’s Emirates has been named the world’s best airline

Dubai airline Emirates has been named the world’s best airline in a new travellers’ choice awards conducted by US-based travel and booking site TripAdvisor.

The awards recognised 50 airlines overall, with the winners determined using an algorithm that took into account the quantity and quality of airline reviews and ratings submitted by travellers worldwide, over a 12-month period.

“The inaugural Travellers’ Choice awards for airlines will help travellers to make the most well-informed air travel decisions, based on the experiences of the global TripAdvisor community,” said Bryan Saltzburg, senior vice president and general manager for TripAdvisor Flights.

“The airline industry is investing billions of dollars in new aircraft and service enhancements to differentiate the flying experience and these awards recognise the carriers offering the very best experiences and value to the traveling public.”

Emirates is the world’s largest international airline, offering 155 destinations in 83 countries across six continents. It is also the first and only airline in the world to operate a fleet of all Airbus A380 and Boeing 777 aircraft for its passenger flights.

The airline also recently announced a multi-million dollar cabin interiors upgrade programme including an improved onboard lounge on its Airbus A380 aircraft which will make its debut in July. Emirates also recently underwent a product overhaul with new branded products introduced to its first and business class cabins.

Among TripAdvisor’s top 10 global list, Asia holds the highest number of individual winners, with a total of five (Singapore Airlines, Korean Air, Japan Airlines, Thai Smile and Garuda Indonesia), followed by the United States, with two airlines in the top rankings including JetBlue and Alaska Airlines.
