The seemingly ubiquitous ‘influencers’ hold increasing amounts of sway over vast numbers of fans and followers. One of the leading proponents is Saudi national Lojain Omran, whose boasts 5.8m followers on Instagram and 1.17m followers on Twitter, giving significant reach to the brands who sign up to leverage her networks. Omran is also a TV host, presenting Good Morning Arabs, and has worked as UNHCR Ambassador, visiting refugee camps. He name became even more well-known last year when she sparked controversy by complaining publicly about her high DEWA bills, and accusing the utility firm of offering special rates to UAE citizens.
