Kuwait Airways halts Lebanon flights

A number of other airlines have announced plans to re-route flights around the Eastern Mediterranean due to possible air strikes in Syria

Kuwait Airways has announced it is stopping flights to Lebanon from Thursday until further notice.

In a statement, the airline said the decision was made following security warnings “of the danger of flying over the airspace around Lebanon”, according to state news agency KUNA.

The decision was based on information sent from authorities in Cyprus and intended to protect passengers, it said.

A number of other airlines have announced plans to re-route flights around the Eastern Mediterranean due to possible air strikes in Syria by the United States and its allies.

The potential strikes comes in response to the use of chemical weapons on Saturday on a rebel-held tow by forces loyal to Syria’s President Bashar Assad

Europe’s air traffic control agency said in a notification published on Tuesday afternoon that air-to-ground and cruise missiles could be used over the following 72 hours and there was a possibility of intermittent disruption to radio navigation equipment, according to Reuters.
