The Rocky Mountains have come to Kempinski Mall of the Emirates with the opening of 20 luxurious Aspen Chalets.

Designed by Wimberly Interiors, the alpine association runs deep with mock crackling fires, cabin-inspired rugs and skiing-themed prints and the finishing of the chalets – 15 offer ski-slope views and five face the pool in a lighter Florida Keys style – is of a high standard.

Chalet guests can be picked up in BMW 7 Series or Rolls-Royce cars and taken directly to their rooms on the second floor, where they will be served by a dedicated butler.

The chalets’ launch marks the culmination of Majid Al Futtaim’s $100m investment covering rooms, F&B outlets and conference facilities. Wednesday marks its 10th anniversary and F&B promotions are running until April 12 to mark the milestone.

Chief executive officer of Hotels at Majid Al Futtaim Simon Barlow said it is in the process of widening its arrangement with Starwood and Hilton – an announcement is due shortly – and it is in “advanced talks” with at least two more international management companies.

“We have no strategic intent to operate ourselves – we see a strong association with hotel brand and mall, and it’s my job to bring the right brand to the right mall. We’re looking to put hotels on MAF malls in Muscat, Cairo and Riyadh.”
