Dubai-based budget carrier flydubai has announced that it will begin flights, starting from December, to Bratislava in Slovakia, Prague in Czech Republic and Sofia in Bulgaria.

The new services are part of flydubai’s continued expansion in Central and Eastern Europe. The airline launched flights to the Eastern European cities of Sarajevo and Zagreb earlier this year.

The airline will operate two trips a week between Dubai and Bratislava, beginning from December 6, on Tuesdays and Saturdays.

The flights between Sofia and Dubai, scheduled to start from December 14, will also be bi-weekly and will operate on Wednesdays and Sundays.

Meanwhile, flydubai will have four flights a week to Prague from December 5 on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Sundays.

The Dubai carrier currently operates to 11 destinations in Central and Eastern Europe with the new routes making it the first UAE airline to operate from Bratislava and Sofia.

“We are always looking for new opportunities to grow our network,” said Jeyhun Efendi, senior vice president commercial, UAE, EU, ME, CIS, flydubai.

“Central and Eastern Europe has always been an important market for us and we are glad that we are able to offer passengers from Bratislava, Prague and Sofia more possibilities to travel to Dubai. In addition, business class will be available on all three routes, offering passengers a premium travel experience.”

The Dubai carrier has been expanding rapidly on the back of rising demand for air travel in the region and has increased the number of destinations in its network. So far in 2014, flydubai has launched 23 new routes and currently operates to 86 destinations across 45 countries.

Since it began operations in 2007, flydubai has started services to approximately 54 new routes that did not previously have any direct air links to Dubai.
