In a tweet the bank expressed its condolences to Loutfy’s family and colleagues.

Reports in the Egyptian media said Loutfy had been found with multiple stab wounds on Tuesday evening.

The bank said it could not provide further comment because the matter was under investigation.

Loutfy, 64, joined ADIB Egypt in 2008 and was credited as the first woman to lead an Islamic bank.
