UAE maid booking start-up Justmop has completed a series A funding round led by venture capital fund VentureFriends.

Other participants in the round included Turkish internet entrepreneur Nevzat Aydin’s Oak Capital and 500 Startups.

The company did not disclose the size of the round but said its total funding since launch was “more than a few million dollars”.

It plans to use the new funds to expand its sales and marketing efforts, improve its booking app and increase the service portfolio of its marketplace, which includes maid services, housekeeping, ironing, polishing and office and home cleaning.

“Our aim is to obtain a tangible leverage in target markets and we will be depending on VentureFriends to guide us,” said co-founder Ali Cagatay Ozcan. “This organisation is replete with successful entrepreneurs who know what we need and when we need it.”

The company said it is on track to have a presence in 10 Gulf cities by the end of 2018, with operations in the UAE, Qatar and Bahain and due diligence being carried out for others including Saudi Arabia and Kuwait.

Its annualised gross revenue sands at more than $10m and it is seeing 25 per cent growth on a monthly basis, according to the announcement.

Justmop noted wider interest in the maid-booking space globally with the recent acquisition of domestic cleaning marketplace HomeHello by Sydney’s UrbanYou and Malaysia-based Kaodim’s closing of a $7m funding round.
