Sheikh Mohammed meets with Chinese President in Beijing

The UAE leader is in Beijing to participate in the Belt and Road conference

The UAE’s Vice President and Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum met with Chinese President Xi Jinping on Thursday, on the sidelines of the Belt and Road conference in Beijing.

The two leaders discussed bilateral ties and ways to improve them.

“We [UAE] are the biggest partner with them [China] in the region. We will maintain this partnership as China’s role in changing the global economic map grows,” Sheikh Mohammed – who is also Dubai’s ruler – said on Twitter.

“Our partnership in this international project [Belt and Road] will accelerate in the coming period,” he added.

Sheikh Mohammed is leading a bigger UAE delegation to the three-day conference, which includes the participation of 40 global leaders, including Russian President Vladimir Putin.

China is showcasing its mega initiative – launched six years ago – which aims expand trade and connect about 70 countries.

Earlier, Sheikh Mohammed also met with Chinese Premier Li Keqiang.

The two leaders discussed ways to enhance cooperation between the two countries in the fields of economy, culture, tourism and education, in addition to promoting investment opportunities.
