RTA rebrands Umm Al Sheif metro station in Dubai

Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has granted Equiti Group naming rights over the Umm Al Sheif metro station in Dubai for a period of 10 years.

The station is located on the Red Line and is located right before Mall of the Emirates for those travelling in the direction from Centrepoint towards Expo 2020.

This month, the RTA has commenced mounting the Equiti branding on the metro station’s exterior signboards, integrating it into the electronic systems of the metro, as well as including it in the onboard voice announcements across metro trains before and leading up to the arrival at the station, according to the Dubai Media Office.

Abdul Mohsen Ibrahim Kalbat, CEO of Rail Agency, RTA, said, “The naming rights for metro stations represent a rewarding investment opportunity for numerous companies and businesses in the UAE to promote their brands in Dubai. The metro is the mainstay of transportation in Dubai and a key hub in the daily commute of hundreds of thousands of various community members.”

The number of riders using public transport, shared transport, and taxis in the Dubai in 2021 amounted to around 461 million. It represented a 33.2 per cent year-on-year increase from the 346 million riders that were recorded in 2020.

The Dubai Metro accounted for the 33 per cent of the total number of riders using public transport in the emirate last year. The number of metro riders on both the Red and Green Lines reached 151.3 million riders in 2021. The Burjuman and Union Stations (interchange stations on the Red and Green Lines) accounted for the biggest number of metro riders last year. About 8.8 million riders used Burjuman Station on both the Red and Green Lines, while 7.5 million riders used the Union Station across both lines.
