If you were anything like the other 1 billion people who tuned in to watch Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, now aka the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, wed in Windsor yesterday, then you quite naturally were vociferously either delivering scathing barbs or lavishing praise on the sartorial choices of the privileged minority who made it to the couple’s dream day.

From Amal Clooney’s yellow Stella McCartney dress to Priyanka Chopra’s lavender Vivienne Westwood outfit, and of course Meghan Markle’s show-stealing Givenchy wedding dress, the women shined bright with their outfit choices.

But amidst all that glamour, menswear too had a silent moment. Prince Harry and his brother looked dapper in their Blues and Royals uniforms tailored by Savile Row’s Dege & Skinner. Funnyman James Corden opted for a Brioni ‘morning dress’, and George Clooney looked effortlessly cool in his grey suit and gold tie with a matching pocket square.

Hands-down though, the best-dressed man at the ceremony was David Beckham (sorry Harry!). Of course, he had some help in the sartorial department from fashion’s reigning king of menswear, Kim Jones.

Kris Van Assche had an incredibly successful 11 years at Dior Homme, but following his exit in March this year, he left rather big shoes to fill. It wasn’t an intimidating position for Kim Jones to quickly occupy. Jones, who was the men’s artistic director at Louis Vuitton from 2011 until January this year, joined Dior Homme just as Van Assche exited the stage.

In terms of breakouts, Jones couldn’t have asked for a bigger stage or even a better celebrity other than Beckham at the Royal Wedding to showcase the Dior Homme’s very first creation under his direction.

If you want an accurate description of what Beckham wore, here’s what the press release from Dior Homme had to say: “He wore a charcoal grey super 130’s wool twill morning coat and pants, a light grey super 150’s wool twill double-breasted waistcoat, a white 200/2 Egyptian cotton poplin shirt, a grey silk satin tie, a grey silk satin pocket square and derbies in black calfskin leather.”

Kim Jones took to Instagram to inform his 401k followers that he had indeed styled Beckham for the occasion. Dare we say, if this look is any indication of the things to come, the label is moving towards a more rock ’n’ roll image that Jones has a track record of pushing out effortlessly in the menswear space.

In more good news for the brand, Jones is getting ready for his first runway show at Dior Homme slated for next month. We can’t wait.
