Home Industry Transport Over 2.1 million use public transport in Dubai on New Year’s eve The Dubai Metro was the most widely used mode of transport by Aarti Nagraj January 1, 2020 Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) announced that the number of people who used public transportation during the celebration of New Year’s 2020 reached 2,126,417, an increase of 3.6 per cent compared to the same period last year. While a total of 907,411 people used Dubai Metro in its Red and Green lines, the tram transported 37,150 people. The number of public bus users on December 31 night reached 440,521. Meanwhile taxis carried 689,212 people and all the marine transport modes transported 52,123 commuters, the RTA said. Dubai welcomed 2020 with a dazzling display of fireworks in several locations across the emirate. About one million gathered in Downtown Dubai to witness the fireworks and light show at the world’s tallest tower, Burj Khalifa.
