Several people were injured after an IED attack on a World War I commemoration ceremony in Jeddah on November 11, officials confirmed.

European diplomats were in attendance at the Remembrance Day ceremony that took place at a non-Muslim cemetery in Saudi Arabia’s port city. The event was organised by the French embassy.

“The annual ceremony commemorating the end of World War I at the non-Muslim cemetery in Jeddah, attended by several consulates, including that of France, was the target of an IED attack this morning, which injured several people,” the French Foreign Ministry reportedly said.

“France strongly condemns this cowardly, unjustifiable attack.”

There were contrasting views on the number of injuries resulting from the attack. According to a Greek official, four people, including a Greek citizen, were injured, while Saudi Arabia asserted that only two people were hurt.
