DP World has signed a landmark 50-year concession agreement with the Fujairah Ports Authority to develop two new multipurpose container terminals in Fujairah, a move expected to significantly expand the UAE’s port capacity, strengthen supply chains and reinforce the country’s position as a leading global trade and logistics hub.
The agreement was signed in the presence of Sheikh Mohammed bin Hamad bin Mohammed Al Sharqi, Crown Prince of Fujairah. Also attending the signing ceremony were Essa Kazim, chairman of DP World’s Board of Directors, and Captain Mousa Murad, MD of Fujairah Ports Authority, according to a WAM report.
Under the long-term concession, DP World will develop the Al Rugaylat Container Terminal and the Dibba Al Fujairah Port, creating new maritime infrastructure designed to meet growing regional and international trade demand.
Strategic boost for Fujairah
Sheikh Mohammed said the preliminary agreement between the Fujairah Ports Authority and DP World reflects the vision of Sheikh Hamad bin Mohammed Al Sharqi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Fujairah, to further establish the emirate as a global maritime and logistics hub.

He said the project would strengthen Fujairah’s economic infrastructure by attracting high-quality investments, improving supply chain efficiency and creating new employment opportunities. The development is also expected to support the UAE’s sustainable development goals while enhancing the country’s competitiveness as a major centre for global trade and logistics.
The new terminals build on Fujairah’s growing importance as a maritime gateway. Located on the Gulf of Oman, the emirate has continued to expand its role in international shipping, with the latest investment expected to bring additional business activity, employment opportunities and long-term economic growth.
Major increase in cargo capacity
The Al Rugaylat terminal is being designed to handle up to 2.5 million twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs) annually. It will also have the capacity to process around 1.7 million tonnes of general cargo each year, along with 190,000 Car Equivalent Units (CEUs).
Meanwhile, Dibba Al Fujairah Port will add annual general cargo handling capacity of up to 3.6 million tonnes.
Once both terminals become operational, DP World’s total container handling capacity across the UAE is expected to increase from 19.4 million TEUs to nearly 22 million TEUs. The expansion will also significantly strengthen the company’s general cargo and roll-on/roll-off (Ro-Ro) capabilities, providing additional flexibility for customers moving goods through the country.
Integrated logistics network
The new facilities will be connected to Jebel Ali through DP World’s inland logistics network and integrated with Jafza, extending the company’s end-to-end supply chain capabilities across the UAE.
The integration is expected to allow customers to move cargo more efficiently between ports, logistics centres and end markets, supporting faster and more resilient supply chains.
Development of the terminals will take place in phases, with construction expected to require approximately 24 to 30 months from the start of work.
Leaders highlight long-term benefits
Sheikh Saleh bin Mohamed Al Sharqi, chairman of Fujairah Ports Authority, described the partnership as a significant milestone in the emirate’s continued maritime development.
“The partnership with DP World marks an important milestone in Fujairah’s continued development as one of the region’s most important maritime gateways. The Al Rugaylat and Dibba terminals will bring world-class operating capability, expanded capacity and new investment to the emirate. We look forward to working with DP World to deliver a project that will benefit customers, communities and the UAE’s wider economy.”
Essa Kazim, chairman of DP World, said the investment underscores the company’s confidence in the UAE’s long-term growth prospects.
“The UAE has been at the heart of DP World’s story for more than four decades, and this investment reflects our confidence in its future as one of the world’s leading trade and logistics hubs. Building on the strength of Jebel Ali, this development deepens our commitment to the UAE and reinforces the country’s strategic role in global trade.”
Captain Mousa Murad, Managing Director of Fujairah Ports Authority, said the development would significantly enhance the emirate’s maritime infrastructure and improve services for customers.
“This development will add significant new capability to Fujairah’s port infrastructure and enhance the range and quality of services we can offer to cargo owners and logistics customers. By combining Fujairah’s strategic location with DP World’s operating expertise, we aim to deliver modern, efficient terminals that support regional trade flows, strengthen connectivity and meet the highest international standards.”
Yuvraj Narayan, group CEO of DP World, said the investment complements the company’s operations at Jebel Ali while creating additional capacity to support future trade growth.
“Fujairah strengthens what Jebel Ali already delivers a single, global integrated platform for moving goods across global supply chains and within the UAE and beyond. With Jebel Ali operating at high utilisation, this development provides the additional capacity to support long-term growth. For cargo owners, it means greater flexibility, more choice and stronger supply chain resilience.”
