The brand has developed from a Dubai luxury-property company into the foundation of a broader privately owned group spanning real estate, hospitality, investment and digital infrastructure.
DAMAC Properties was founded in 2002 by Emirati businessman Hussain Sajwani, the same year Dubai expanded freehold property ownership to international investors in designated areas.
The company acquired land in Dubai Marina for its first development and subsequently became one of the most recognisable developers to emerge during the formative years of Dubai’s international property market.
Over the following two decades, DAMAC expanded through large master-planned communities including DAMAC Hills, DAMAC Hills 2 and DAMAC Lagoons, alongside high-rise residential projects and branded residences. Its current portfolio also includes communities such as DAMAC Islands, DAMAC Riverside and DAMAC Sun City.
Brand partnerships have become a defining element of the company’s luxury strategy. DAMAC has worked with global fashion, jewellery, hospitality and lifestyle brands, using international names and design collaborations to differentiate projects in an increasingly competitive premium-property market.
DAMAC Properties was previously listed on the Dubai Financial Market before returning to private ownership. Since then, the wider DAMAC Group has increasingly diversified beyond conventional property development. One of the most significant areas of expansion is digital infrastructure through EDGNEX Data Centers by DAMAC. The business is developing data-centre projects across international markets as demand for cloud computing and artificial intelligence increases.
In Indonesia, EDGNEX announced a $2.3bn AI-focused data-centre project in Jakarta with planned capacity of up to 144MW. Land was acquired in March 2025, with the first phase scheduled to begin operations by the end of 2026. This diversification changes how the wider DAMAC organisation should be described. DAMAC Properties remains fundamentally a real estate developer, while digital infrastructure and other investments sit within the broader DAMAC Group rather than the property company itself.
The distinction is important because the original copy risked blending the two entities.
