Emirati women held about Dhs39bn worth of shares on the Abu Dhabi Securities Exchange (ADX) at the end of July, accounting for 94 per cent of the total value of shares held by female investors on the exchange, ADX said.
Close to 125,000 active Emirati female investors participated in the market, according to ADX market statistics, highlighting their growing role in Abu Dhabi’s capital markets.
The exchange disclosed the figures as it marked Emirati Women’s Day with a bell-ringing ceremony attended by female employees and the mothers and grandmothers of female staff.
Women also account for 40 per cent of ADX’s workforce, according to the exchange.
“Emirati women continue to advance our economy with exceptional resilience, determination, and ambition,” ADX group chief executive Abdulla Salem Alnuaimi said.
“Their ability to drive innovation while nurturing families is a powerful reflection of their dedication. As a dynamic, multi-asset exchange, ADX is building the infrastructure and access that allow this leadership to compound, both among the investors who trade on our platform and the 40 per cent of our own workforce who are women shaping how this exchange operates.”
Alnuaimi said the exchange’s priority was to ensure the next generation of Emirati women inherited a strong market supported by their leadership, financial knowledge and empowerment.
ADX’s Emirati Women’s Day event coincided with the UAE’s Year of Family initiative. The exchange invited employees’ mothers and grandmothers onto its trading floor, linking the event to the role of financial stewardship and long-term investing in building family wealth.
ADX said financial literacy and long-term investment could play a practical role in strengthening family financial stability and building sustainable wealth.
The exchange said it was also supporting female professionals internally through structured career development and advancement programmes across different levels of the organisation.
This year’s Emirati Women’s Day celebrations are being held under the theme “We Emerge Stronger and Better”.
