Public schools in the UAE will continue with remote learning on February 13, announced the government with weather conditions expected to improve but not clear up completely.

The second day of remote learning was announced on the UAE government’s social media handle on platform X, as Monday’s rainfall flooded several areas across Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Sharjah.

Remote work for federal employees

The Dubai government announced that public sector employees will continue to work remotely on February 13 as the emirate continues to see intermittent rainfall and water logging across the city.

The directive was issued by Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai.

Work from home extended for private sector

The Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MoHRE) notified of an extension to remote working guidelines for private sector employees as well.

In its statement, MoHRE said, “It called on calls on private sector companies across the UAE to apply flexible working patterns during unstable weather conditions.”

“Necessary measures need to be taken by companies to ensure outdoor work, if necessary to resume, complies with the occupational health and safety requirements,” the ministry said in a statement.

“Companies also need to ensure the health and safety of workers commuting to and from outdoor work locations.”

Weather authority forecast

The National Centre of Meteorology has issued weather advisories covering a significant portion of the country until noon on Tuesday.

A red alert, indicating extreme caution during hazardous weather conditions, has been issued for certain areas of Abu Dhabi.

Although rain has caused damage and flooding in some school areas, the majority of students in the UAE are expected to resume in-person classes on Tuesday.
