Abu Dhabi’s Department of Municipalities and Transport (DMT) launched the “General Dark Sky Policy” in the emirate on Wednesday.
The policy aims to reduce light pollution in order to “preserve the clarity and beauty of the emirate’s night skies”, as per the official statement.
The policy will create a model for responsible lighting practices and consolidates the principles of sustainability among the community in Abu Dhabi, it added.
Dr Salem Al Kaabi, director general of Operations Affairs at the DMT, said, “The Abu Dhabi Dark Sky Policy embodies our commitment to a future where the beauty of the night sky is cherished and protected.
