The UAE’s Federal Authority for Government Human Resources (FAHR) has announced that Sunday, August 23, will be a holiday for all federal government employees in the country as a result of the Hijri New Year.

The announcement was made via a circular issued on Thursday by FAHR, based on a relevant Council of Ministers Resolution on Public Holidays.

There has been no official announcement yet regarding Hijri New Year holidays for the private sector.

However, according to a decree issued by the UAE cabinet last year, all public and private sector employees have the same number of public holidays.

Hence, the private sector too is expected to receive a three-day weekend and will need to resume work on Monday, August 24.
