Emaar Development announces new chairman, Alabbar to remain in executive role

Adnan Kazim has been named as its new chairman in line with regulatory requirements

Dubai-based Emaar Development – part of Emaar Properties, has appointed Adnan Kazim – the chief commercial officer at Emirates airline – as its new chairman, it revealed in a bourse statement on Sunday.

The company, listed on the Dubai Financial Market (DFM), said that founder Mohamed Ali Alabbar – who was serving as the chairman – will now be “devoted to the executive management matters and the day-to-day affairs of Emaar”.

The decision was taken at a board meeting on December 17.

The move comes as part of measures to comply with the provisions of article 7b of the governance code applicable to public joint stock companies which prohibits combining the position of chairman of the board of directors and any executive position in the company, the statement said.

Emaar Development also confirmed that Dr. Aisha Bint Butti Bin Bishr – head of Dubai Smart Office – has been named as the company’s vice-chairperson.

The latest announcement comes after Emaar Properties took a similar step last week, naming Jamal Bin Theniyah as chairman with Alabbar taking on the role of managing director.
