Home UAE Dubai Dubai’s RTA unveils Dhs1.6bn digital strategy The digital strategy implementation will be carried out over four phases spanning seven years by Gulf Business December 18, 2023 Image courtesy: WAM Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has unveiled its Dhs1.6bn digital strategy, with 82 projects and initiatives that are aimed at strengthening the authority’s digitalisation journey by optimising the use of data and constructing infrastructure that is agile and scalable. The seven-year digital strategy includes enabling 100 per cent fintech-driven mobility, increasing digital service adoption to 95 per cent, digitising the skill set of the workforce, and developing 50 artificial intelligence use cases. “RTA is progressing steadily in employing modern and advanced technologies, undertaking digital transformation projects, and harnessing all resources to offer innovative and quality-driven services,” said Mattar Al Tayer, the director general and chairman of the transport authority. “RTA is dedicated to continually enhancing services via digital platforms. This direction involves creating an environment conducive to leveraging the latest technologies, ensuring streamlined service provision, and taking proactive measures to keep pace with contemporary demands for swift and precise service delivery.” The digital strategy aligns with the company’s Strategic Plan 2024-2030, and Dubai Digital Strategy. It seeks to enhance collaboration with partners, undertaking projects advocating emerging technologies to accelerate the pace and impact of future digital transformation, and optimising the investment in data. The digital strategy implementation will be carried out over four phases spanning seven years. Phase one involves 62 projects valued at Dhs829m, the second phase includes 10 projects valued at Dhs249m and the third phase involves three projects with a budget of Dhs100m. RTA’s Strategic Plan 2024-2030 Meanwhile, RTA unveiled its revamped Strategic Plan 2024-2030 earlier in December, as part of its broader strategy to stay abreast of global and future trends in the transportation sector while reinforcing its endeavours to become a global leader in delivering pioneering services. The authority’s strategic plan centres on achieving five key goals and objectives pertinent to integrated and innovative mobility. It seeks to improve accessibility, foster better integration of multi-modal transport, expand current and future mobility services, and chart smart mobility solutions. The plan is designed to facilitate the development of roads and transport systems that support the 20-minute city – ensuring that 80 per cent of daily services are accessible within a 20-minute journey by walking or cycling. The authority’s plan is aimed at fostering sustainability in Dubai by speeding up the transition towards green transportation in line with the designating of 2023 as the Year of Sustainability and the hosting of the COP28 climate summit. RTA seeks to convert all taxis and limousines in Dubai to electric and hydrogen vehicles by 2040 and convert the entire fleet of public transport buses into electric and hydrogen buses by 2050.
