Dubai Police has unveiled a Dhs2 million ($500,000) Lamborghini Aventador as its latest addition to its fleet of patrol cars.

The Italian supercar was unveiled on Dubai Police’s twitter account on Wednesday as it posted a picture of the vehicle outside Dubai Mall with the caption: “Latest #Dubai_Police patrols, now at your service”.

Standard Aventadors come with a 6.5 litre V12 engine, producing 690 horsepower and are capable of a top speed of 350 km/h. Even with Dubai’s high number of speedy supercars, few will be able to outrun the new patrol wagon.

In a statement, the Police said they will begin to introduce ‘Police specification’ sports cars into its fleet which ‘will help to facilitate policing on highways’.

Images of the new car were circulated on Twitter on Wednesday as Dubai’s residents saw the vehicle first hand in Downtown Dubai, along Sheikh Zayed Road and around Jumeirah Beach Residences.

The white Aventador, which has unique green livery and flashing lights as well as the normal ‘Police’ branding, will use the plate number ‘8’.

The majority of Dubai’s police cars are Toyota Land Cruisers and Kia Mohaves – not as fast or flashy as a Lamborghini, but more practical.
