Developers at Qiddiya City are aiming to complete construction of the Middle East’s biggest water theme park, dubbed Aquarabia, in 2025.

This is according to an announcement from the Qiddiya Investment Company (QIC), which says the project will complement the city’s flagship theme park Six Flags Qiddiya City.

Aquarabia will feature 22 rides and the developers aim to break four world-records, including constructing the world’s tallest water coaster, the tallest drop body slide, the tallest water slide, and the longest mat racer.

Other features of the project will include an underwater adventure ride with fully submersible cars, as well as an extreme watersports zone dedicated to rafting, kayaking, ‘canyoneering’, free solo climbing and cliff jumping, as well as a surf pool. Aquarabia will also have a theme park area centred around ancient desert wellsprings.

“This announcement marks a significant milestone for Qiddiya City and for the entertainment, tourism and sports sector,” said QIC managing director, Abdullah Aldawood, in a statement.

“As we keep expanding our entertainment offering, Aquarabia and Six Flags Qiddiya City will fulfil the diverse entertainment needs of our community, contribute to the diversification of our economy and create job opportunities in the tourism sector,” he said.

Qiddiya City’s Six Flags

Aquarabia will form part of Six Flags Qiddiya City, which is a mega entertainment complex which also aims to break several records.

As part of Six Flags, the entertainment development will consist of Sirocco Tower, which will be the world’s tallest free standing shot tower ride. In addition, it will also showcase the likes of:

  • ‘Gyropsin’, the world’s tallest pendulum ride,
  • ‘Spitfire’, the world’s tallest inverted top hat coaster,
  • ‘Iron Rattler’, the world’s tallest tilt coaster,
  • Falcons Flight, the world’s tallest, fastest and longest roller coaster.

Qiddiya City forms part of Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 development plan and it is a $2.7bn project which, upon completion, will consist of 60,000 buildings across a 360 square kilometre area. The project is expected to house 600,000 residents, generating more than 325,000 job opportunities. Qiddiya City aims to further target attracting 48 million annual visitors.
