The Emirate of Ajman is the latest to permit short-term rentals for visitors to the UAE. Ajman’s Department of Tourism Development (ADTD) recently unveiled its ‘Holiday Homes services’, to boost tourism numbers.

These services were published as per the Emiri Decree No 6 of 2023 after approval from Sheikh Humaid bin Rashid Al Nuaimi, member of the UAE Supreme Council and Ruler of Ajman.

The holiday homes services create a comprehensive regulatory framework to govern and supervise the operations of short-term rentals throughout the emirate. The framework has been created to develop a sustainable holiday home model as tourism numbers rise.

Property owners and hotel management companies will now be able to lease residential units for short durations, allowing for flexible alternatives to conventional one-year rental contracts.

Registration for holiday home permits will be accessible through the ADTD’s electronic services system in the first week of June. Interested owners and companies must submit specific documents to obtain the permit before letting out their premises.

Applicants are required to apply for the permit using the website of the Department of Tourism Development in Ajman.

The requirements for the permit include a form, documents for verification, and applicable fees. Once the electronic permit is issued, it will need to be displayed within the designated unit.

Mahmood Khaleel Alhashmi, director-general of the Ajman Department of Tourism Development, said, “This significant development is a milestone in the ongoing endeavours to establish Ajman as a preferred destination for tourists.”

Alhashmi emphasised the anticipated impact of these services, which will offer a diverse array of accommodation options tailored to meet the varying needs of visitors, thereby attracting a larger influx of tourists to Ajman.

Apart from Ajman, the emirates of Dubai, Sharjah have issued rules regulating the management of holiday homes for tourists.
