The UAE will witness rainy weather conditions over the next few days, with thunder, lightning and even hailstorms forecast in parts of the country.

For Wednesday, the National Centre of Meteorology (NCM) has predicted cloudy weather with rainfall in differing intensities over scattered areas associated with thunder at times.

Videos and pictures from Tuesday night posted on social media showed dramatic footage of lightning in parts of the country.

The Abu Dhabi Municipality has also issued an alert asking for complaints related to water ponds, falling trees and falling or sloping streetlights.

The NCM has forecast a drop in temperatures on Wednesday, which will range between 23 degrees celsius to 33 degrees in the coastal areas, 21 degrees and 38 degrees in the internal areas, and 20 degrees to 31 degrees in the mountains.

It also warned of heavy winds – reaching speeds of 65km/hr, which along with blowing dust and sand are expected to reduce visibility over the exposed areas.

The sea will also be very rough at times especially with cloud activity in the Arabian Gulf, the NCM cautioned.

The UAE is being “affected by an extension of surface low pressure accompanied with an upper air trough where the clouds will be moving towards the country from the west”, the NCM explained.

Similar weather conditions are predicted until Sunday, April 14, with a warning for hail-fall flash flooding also issued for Saturday.
