Roads in parts of the UAE were closed on Monday after unusually high waves caused flooding.

Police in Sharjah closed off the road from the Khor Kalba port roundabout to Kalba Square due to high water levels.

“Due to weather fluctuations in the eastern regions of the country, the Sharjah Police General Command calls on members of the public to take precautions and avoid going to the sea due to rising water levels,” the police said on Twitter.

It also called on motorists to abide by traffic rules and comply with the speed limits.

Meanwhile the Fujairah municipality also closed the Murbah Beach Road and urged the public to remain cautious.

Videos posted on social media showed waves crashing down in Khor Fakkan, and water flooding the streets in Dibba.
