The Dubai Customs revealed on Tuesday, November 25, that it had intercepted an attempt to smuggle 663.2kgs of drugs into the country.

The narcotics were found stashed aboard a dhow entering the emirate’s coastal border near the Creek and Deira Wharfage Customs Centre in Dubai.

The customs control team called Siyaj coordinated with the operational control room of the Sea Customs Management which had gathered intelligence of a dhow coming to the country carrying a suspicious shipment.

The vessel was flagged as ‘very high risk’. It was tracked down was searched thoroughly upon its arrival in the port with the help of the K9 Unit. The team also used endoscopic inspection technology to inspect the areas behind the wooden panels. The drugs were found concealed behind those false panels in the dhow.

Once the substances were located, a mobile customs laboratory recovered the contraband and screened it, the results of which confirmed the nature of the narcotic substances.

The shipment included 306.44 kg of crystal meth, 201.44kg of opium and cannabis, and 122.72kg of narcotic pills and psychotropic substances, and 32.62kg of heroin.
