UK Offers Support To Qatar For 2022

Ambassador Nicholas Hopton dismissed criticism Qatar has faced in preparation for hosting the event.

The United Kingdom has offered to support and advise Qatar in its build-up to hosting the Fifa 2022 World Cup, using its knowledge of hosting the 2012 Olympics.

That’s according to British ambassador to the Gulf state Nicholas Hopton, who was speaking at a construction and engineering conference in Doha on Tuesday.

Hopton also dismissed criticism Qatar has faced in preparation for hosting the event.

As reported by local paper Gulf Times, Hopton said: “I am confident that the amount of experience and international intelligence being put towards the success of the World Cup will eventually overcome all the challenges.”

The British ambassador also said following its hosting of the Olympic games two years ago, the UK is “very well-placed to advise and support and help Qatar realise its vision of the World Cup”.

He also described the Qatar’s National Vision 2030 as “one of the most extraordinary and ambitious documents published in recent history by any country”.

Hopton also commended Qatar for its strong relationship with the UK and the recognition of British expertise.

“Qatar likes working with the UK and UK is very comfortable working with Qatar,” he said.
