Sheikh Mohammed approves the construction of a federal water network linking the Northern Emirates to Abu Dhabi and Dubai

The UAE has allocated Dhs5.8bn for energy and water projects in the northern emirates, it was revealed on Wednesday.

Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid, the UAE’s Vice President and Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai made the announcement during his tour of the region – which began last week.

“During a field tour today, we approved the construction of new water dams and a federal water network linking the Northern Emirates to Abu Dhabi and Dubai at a cost of Dhs2.4bn,” he said on Twitter.

“We also allocated Dhs5.8bn to energy and water projects in the Northern Emirates and approved the construction of a solar power station and a plant to desalinate 150 million gallons of water for Umm al Quwain in the next two years,” he added.

On Tuesday, the UAE leader also approved infrastructure projects worth Dhs1bn in Fujairah and the development of a residential complex worth Dhs400m in Khorfakkan. He also approved plans to build schools, healthcare facilities, internal roads and community buildings along the UAE’s east coast.

“Through field tours, we are able to practice our pro-active and practical administrative style; a tradition we learned from the late Sheikh Zayed and Sheikh Rashid,” Sheikh Mohammed added on Twitter.

Last week, Sheikh Mohammed announced that the UAE had allocated Dhs11bn towards federal roads and infrastructure projects in the Northern Emirates.

On Monday, during his visit to the Higher Colleges of Technology in Fujairah, Sheikh Mohammed also announced the allocation of Dhs1.5bn to build “a new generation” of schools in the country.

The schools will include laboratories for robotics, artificial intelligence, health and the environment, as well as specialised sports facilities, he said.
