Mark Zuckerberg has unveiled the upcoming release of Meta Quest 3, a virtual and mixed reality headset set to launch later this year. The new headset features enhanced resolution, improved performance, revolutionary Meta Reality technology and a sleeker, more comfortable design.

Quest 3 will be available in all countries where the current Meta Quest is supported.

The base model with 128GB of storage will have a starting price of $499.99, and Meta will also offer an additional storage option for users seeking extra space.

Meta Quest 3 combines a top-tier resolution display with advanced pancake optics, resulting in an unparalleled visual experience.

To support the increased pixel density, the headset will be the first to feature a next-generation Snapdragon chipset developed in partnership with Qualcomm Technologies.

The Snapdragon chipset delivers more than double the graphical performance compared to the previous generation Snapdragon GPU found in Quest 2.

Meta reality technology

On Meta Quest 3, Meta Reality technology lets users seamlessly blend the physical world with the virtual one.

The latest advancements in mixed reality surpass the current capabilities by intelligently recognizing and responding to real-world objects, enabling users to navigate their surroundings in natural and intuitive ways that were previously difficult.

With high-fidelity colour Passthrough, machine learning and spatial understanding, users can interact with virtual content and the physical environment simultaneously, opening up endless opportunities for exploration.

Meta Quest 3 – Redesigned for comfort and control

With a 40 per cent slimmer optic profile compared to Quest 2, Quest 3 is a sleeker, more comfortable headset. The brand has redesigned Quest 3’s Touch Plus controllers with a more streamlined and ergonomic form factor. It has dropped the outer tracking rings so the controllers feel like a more natural extension of users hands and take up less space.

It is also included with TruTouch haptics that first debuted in Touch Pro.

Users can even upgrade to fully self-tracked Meta Quest Touch Pro Controllers for a premium experience.

And hand tracking will be supported out of the box, so users can explore without controllers, thanks to Direct Touch that lets use just hands to interact with virtual objects.

Library of content

Meta Quest 3 is compatible with the Quest 2 catalog of over 500 VR games, apps and experiences (and counting), and we’ve got even more exciting new VR and MR titles lined up for launch.

That means Quest 3 will have the world’s best library of immersive experiences on day one.

Quest 2 gets new lower prices

Starting June 4, Meta is lowering the price of Quest 2 to $299.99 for the 128GB SKU and $349.99 for the 256GB SKU, helping even more people access the magic of all-in-one VR and our vast content library.

Meanwhile, in an upcoming software update, Meta is updating the Quest 2 and Quest Pro GPU and CPU. Quest 2 and Pro will see an up-to 26 per cent CPU performance increase with an up-to 19 per cent GPU speed increase for Quest 2 and 11 per cent for Quest Pro.
