Construction of the mega-facility could start in late 2025, with the first 800 megawatts (MW) of electricity expected to come online by 2029
The $13.9bn project will consist of two 1.5GW offshore wind farms, with Masdar as a key partner in the project.
The wind farm will have an anticipated annual production capacity of 1.9 terawatt-hours, enough to power 475,000 homes
Masdar aims to add to existing projects in the kingdom, including a 400MW wind farm and a 300MW solar power plant
UAE’s Masdar has partnered on the construction of the 400MW Dumat Al Jandal facility
The wind farm at Harweel will have a capacity of 50 megawatts, and is expected to begin operating early in 2017.
