UAE President Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan issued a federal decree on Monday to form the Federal National Council (FNC) for the 17th legislative chapter.
The FNC will include 40 members representing all the emirates of the country, including 20 women, official news agency WAM reported.
Among the members, half have been elected and the remaining 20 have been appointed by the government.
Sheikh Khalifa has called for the council to convene on Thursday, November 14.
Established in 1971, the consultative body advises the government and can pass, amend and reject federal laws.
The FNC is one of the five federal authorities stipulated in the constitution. The others include the Federal Supreme Council, the President and Vice-President, the Cabinet and the Federal Judiciary.
