Sheikh Ahmed appointed as chairman of Expo City Dubai Authority

Reem Al Hashimy, who serves as the UAE’s Minister of State for International Cooperation, was named as CEO of Expo City Dubai Authority

Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, has appointed Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum as chairman and Reem Al Hashimy as CEO of Expo City Dubai Authority.

Sheikh Mohammed issued Resolution No (27) of 2022 appointing Saeed Al Maktoum as chairman and Resolution No (28) of 2022 appointing Reem Al Hashimy as CEO respectively.

According to state news agency WAM, Resolutions 27 and 28 of 2022 are effective from their date of publication in the Official Gazette.

As the chairman of Dubai Civil Aviation Authority and Dubai Airports, and CEO of Emirates Airline and Group, Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum has been at the forefront of spearheading Dubai’s successful expansion of aviation. In his role as the chairman of the Dubai Expo 2020 Higher Committee, he also supervised the preparations for the mega six-month event.

Reem Al Hashimy, who also serves as the UAE’s Minister of State for International Cooperation, is one of the rising stars of the UAE government. She led the country’s bid to host the world expo, in her role as the managing director of Expo in 2020 and a member of the Higher Committee of Dubai Expo 2020.

On June 20, Sheikh Mohammed announced the opening of Expo City Dubai. Transforming the expo site into a new city, Expo City Dubai will be a smart destination for businesses, driven by sustainability, innovation, education and entertainment. It is set to open in October this year.

After the success of Expo 2020 Dubai, Expo City will reinforce Dubai’s position as a leading destination for global exhibitions and events. In addition, it will facilitate the sharing of knowledge and experiences related to the management and organisation of major global and regional events in Dubai.

Furthermore, the Authority hopes to consolidate relationships formed during Expo 2020 Dubai with countries, organisations, institutions and investment funds. In order to attract global companies, investors, and institutions, the Authority’s objectives are aligned with Dubai’s strategic vision.

Additionally, the 28th United Nations Climate Change Conference of the Parties (COP28) will be held at Expo City Dubai in November 2023. The conference is expected to see over 45,000 participants daily, including heads of state, government officials, international industry leaders, private sector representatives, academics, experts and representatives of civil society organisations.
