InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG) has opened Holiday Inn Abu Dhabi Downtown, the brand’s second property in the UAE capital and sixth IHG property in the city.
The 257-room hotel is a conversion – it was formerly Sands Hotel – and is located on Zayed The First street, close to the Corniche.
Amenities include a rooftop pool, gym and sauna and business travellers will be able to make use of the 24-hour business centre, complete with conferencing technology. The hotel’s Al Bateen banqueting and conference room can accommodate a range of requirements from seated dinners and cocktail receptions to theatre and boardroom meetings.
The hotel’s all-day dining restaurant, La Piazza, serves a variety of cuisines and family-friendly brunch every Friday while Chequers Bar and Restaurant has a live band. Guests can also choose from Asian cuisine and cocktails at Tipar Bar & Restaurant or traditional English pub treats at the Harvesters Pub, which also has a live band and DJ, televised sports and weekly pub quiz.
Guests can make use of free shuttle buses to the public beach and Al Wahda and Marina malls.
Pascal Gauvin, COO for India, Middle East and Africa, IHG, said Abu Dhabi continues to be a key market for the group as it continues its sustained growth.
Major operators are concentrating more on the mid-market as the UAE’s travel industry matures and price-conscious consumers seek affordable places to stay beyond the numerable five-star hotels.
