Saudi air defence forces destroyed armed drones launched by the Houthis in Yemen targeting Abha International Airport and the city of Najran, the official Saudi Press Agency (SPA) confirmed early on Wednesday.

No further details were given about the incidents.

“We will deal firmly with the senseless attacks against civilians and civilian objects,” SPA quoted the coalition forces as saying on Twitter.

“Coalition forces’ operations are in compliance with international humanitarian law and its customary rules,” it added.

Saudi has been facing Houthi attacks on a frequent basis, with the southern part of the country a primary target.

The Abha International Airport has specifically seen numerous drone attacks.

Earlier this month, falling debris from a drone shattered the glass of some of the windows at the airport, injuring four workers.

On August 31, a drone attack on the airport injured eight people and damaged an Airbus 320 civilian aircraft.
