Samsung Electronics announced the new Galaxy Watch6 and Galaxy Watch6 Classic have been available for pre-orders from July 26 before their general availability starting August 11.

Samsung says the new watch is “their best yet.”

Available in two sizes 44mm and 47mm respectively, the smartwatch is designed to help users build healthier habits while being connected more seamlessly.

Samsung said the Galaxy Watch6 series packs health offerings and performance in a slimmer bezel, a larger display, and a more interactive user interface. It added that both models allow users to access a greater selection of watch faces as well as new band options.

“With the new Galaxy Watch6 and Galaxy Watch6 Classic, we are delivering on our commitment to democratise advanced health monitoring tools, now offering easier access right from the wrist,” said TM Roh, president and head of Mobile eXperience at Samsung Electronics.

Galaxy Watch6 features

Samsung’s Galaxy Watch6 series features a new design that provides better viewing, greater power, and a wider selection of more customisable and comfortable options.

Samsung Electronics says daily tasks such as reading and writing will be easier on the display which is 20 per cent larger than previous iterations, it showcases more text on the screen and features a larger keyboard. The watch has a higher resolution display with a peak brightness of 2,000nits, coupled with an ‘Always On Display’ brightness adjustment feature, allowing users to see and do more even under bright sunlight.

It is powered by an enhanced processor and memory, which allows Galaxy Watch6 to deliver smoother and faster interactions.

Galaxy Watch6 and Watch6 Classic come with a 30 per cent slimmer bezel and a 15 per cent thinner rotating bezel respectively. It also features new, interactive, and informative watch faces.

Galaxy Watch6 series comes with a larger battery and reduced battery consumption to support its larger and brighter display. The wearable needs just eight minutes of quick charge, to allow users to get an additional eight hours of worktime.

Sleep monitoring

Samsung said its focus on enhancing health features starts with helping users optimise their night. It noted that the the three key elements of better sleep are – understanding personal sleep patterns, building better habits, and establishing a sleep-friendly environment.

The electronics giant said the watch hence builds on leading-edge sleep and wellness features, with in-depth analysis of Sleep Score Factors5 — total sleep time, sleep cycle, awake time, plus physical and mental recovery — to help users understand the quality of sleep received each night.

The Galaxy Watch 6 offers more individualised ‘Sleep Messages’, which has been co-developed with the National Sleep Foundation. Additionally, Galaxy Watch6 offers ‘Sleep Consistency’ showing how consistent the user’s sleep and wake times are, and a designated Sleep Animal Symbol representing their sleep type.

The smartwatch can connect to home electronics and turn on Sleep Mode across the user’s watch and phone to mute notifications, dim screens and activate the invisible LED infrared sensor on the watch to valuable health insights without additional light distractions.

Body composition

Key physical measurements like skeletal muscle, basal metabolic rate, body water, and body fat percentage, provides a complete snapshot of the user’s body and fitness, offering a tailored approach to set goals, track progress, and guide through personalized fitness and now nutritional tips via a new partnership with Whisk.

A new personalised ‘Heart Rate Zone’ feature analyses individual physical capabilities and defines five optimal running intensity levels to help users set their own goals based on their ability — from burning fat to high-intensity workout. In addition to over 100 existing workout trackers, the newly added ‘Track Run’ records the user’s runs on a track, while ‘Custom Workout’ allows users to build and track their personalised workout routine.

Added to existing blood pressure and electrocardiogram monitoring, the new ‘Irregular Heart Rhythm’ notification feature helps users understand their heart health more comprehensively by checking for heart rhythms suggestive of Atrial fibrillation (AFib) in the background — even while asleep.

Galaxy Watch6 can also enable users to track skin temperature during the night to give insights including menstrual cycle tracking.

It now features fall detection that can gauge a fall, whether occurring during exercise when standing still, or even while sleeping if users happen to fall out of bed. Once a fall is detected, your watch will automatically alert an emergency service number or pre-selected contacts.

Samsung universe

The new Samsung Wallet on Galaxy Watch6 combines Samsung Pay with Samsung Pass to incorporate more of the user’s wallet — including IDs, event tickets and boarding passes as well as credit cards and membership cards — in their watch.

WhatsApp makes it easier for Galaxy Watch users to stay connected with friends and family, all without getting out their phone. Samsung said that it will roll out new apps from Google Calendar and Gmail, which will be exclusively available on Wear OS, starting this fall.

The watch also features an upgraded Camera Controller that enables remote control of a paired Galaxy Z Flip5 camera to switch modes and zoom. Users can use the Samsung Smart TV28 or Galaxy Tab S9 to show the user’s progress in real-time with a guided fitness or mindfulness program on the large screen.

The watch also allows users to automatically toggle the connection of Galaxy Buds2 Pro between Samsung devices via Auto Switch. Should users happen to misplace their phone, Galaxy Watch6 series can now pinpoint its location through Find My Phone with map support.

Galaxy wearable colours

Galaxy Watch6 comes in 44mm in Graphite and Silver and in 40mm in Graphite and Gold. For a more premium timepiece design, the Galaxy Watch6 Classic featuring a rotating bezel is available in Black and Silver in 43mm and 47mm.

“From sleep and fitness coaching to nutritional insights, Samsung is providing new and convenient ways to help users gain understanding and take action for better health and wellness, every day and every night,” added Roh.
